Sierra Leone initiates travel Advisory for Prevention of Coronavirus
PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Freetown, 10th February, 2020
Following the declaration, by the World Health Organization (WHO), of the novel coronavirus outbreak in China and many other countries and regions as a Public Health Event of International Concern, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation has instituted the following additional precautionary measures:
- All Sierra Leoneans or other nationals resident in Sierra Leone intending to travel to China or any other Countries where the 2019 novel coronavirus has been confirmed are encouraged to delay such trip or exercise the maximum precautionary measures where such travel is absolutely necessary. They are also strongly encouraged to fully comply with all preventive measures put in place by the national authorities of the host country
- All passengers arriving at the Point of Entry (POE) in any part of Sierra Leone would be subjected to MANDATORY screening for the 2019 novel coronavirus infection
- All passengers arriving at the POE in any part of Sierra Leone, who had visited China in the last 14 days would be subjected to quarantining with a regular follow up by trained health workers to monitor their health for the duration of the incubation period of the virus which is 14 days
Whilst the MoHS and partners are vigorously working to prevent and control diseases and conditions of public health importance, the ministry remains committed to protect the health of its citizens.
