The final day of the week-long World Environment Day celebration on the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution” was a resounding success. Participants from all over the Country came together to share their ideas and strategies for reducing plastic waste. The day began with a series of workshops and panel discussions where experts discussed the impact of plastic pollution on our environment and ways to combat it. Later in the day, there were interactive exhibits showcasing innovative solutions to plastic waste, such as biodegradable packaging and reusable containers. The highlight of the day was a community clean-up event, where volunteers worked together to collect litter from local beaches and waterways. As the sun set on this inspiring event, participants left feeling motivated and empowered to make a difference in their own communities. With continued efforts like these, we can all work towards a cleaner, healthier planet for generations to come. The waste plastic collection started from Atlantic/Golf Club to the National Tourist Board on Friday, June 9, 2023, and statements was made by various partners, including Breakthrough ACTION, Freetown City Council (FCC), and the National Tourist Board.
Waste plastic collection is ongoing by various teams, including schoolchildren, around the Lumley-Aberdeen Beach axis.
