The Mobile Health Clinic (hospitals on wheels), have on Saturday 15th October departed Freetown Kabala and Moyamba to provide free and affordable healthcare services to Sierra Leoneans. In his statements at Youyi Building in Freetown before departure, Dr. Yeabu Kargbo the Medical Superintendent for the Mobile Health Clinic mentioned that the healthcare service is free of charge and therefore called on all to grab the opportunity which she described as “innovative service” made possible by China to the Government and People of Sierra Leone. She further disclosed that the Mobile Health Clinic on average, attend to about 4000 patients including children. She reiterated that there are lab scientists and technicians in these buses and with a formidable team working with stakeholders which include Districts Medical Officers (DMOs), paramount chiefs and religious leaders. Dr. Mustapha Kabba – Deputy Chief Medical Officer Clinical Services at MoHS informed all that the hospitals on wheels seek to provide free medical services to Sierra Leoneans across the country.He disclosed that the Mobile Health Clinic is heading for Kabala in the Koinadu District and Moyamba District respectively with 2 healthcare buses going to each district attending, to the sick for a week. He further explained that the Mobile Health Clinic service has been ongoing in places like Kenema, Kambia, Bo, Port Loko to help the underprivileged in communities across the country and that the free healthcare package on the hospitals on wheels comprises of laboratories facilities, diagnostic service for hypertension and diabetes, free screening of pregnant women and free drugs, amongst others. He went on to state that the hospitals on wheels do administer COVID-19 vaccines and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine. Harold Thomas, Health Education Programme Manager and Lead for Risk Communications, MoHS informed that public that the healthcare buses would be periodically going to the provinces administering treatment, diagnosing and screening patients, offering free and quality healthcare services to citizens. He encouraged all to fully utilise these services.
